opening song:
"I Don't Know" - Ben Pasley
post-teaching:
"Our Great God" - Fernando Ortega
"One and Only" - original
"Christ Our Wine" - original
"Famous One" - Jon Bon Tomlin
For those Crossings-ites who were craving something in the flavor of a big, 6/8 anthem to be sung at the top of your lungs...oh yeah, we broke out "Famous One"; took it right out of the 'that's so 5 years ago' file. Its a good song and I thought it went over really well yesterday.

Here are the songs we did this past Sunday at Crossings...
pre-teaching:
"All We Need" - Charlie Hall
"O Praise Him" - David Crowder
"Rain Down" - David Crowder
"Before the Throne of God Above" - traditional
post-teaching:
"How Deep the Father's Love" - Stuart Townend
Rachel Yager led worship and did a wonderful job. One funny thing happened, though. We used a Highway Video background for "O Praise Him"...which is not an uncommon thing at all. But the computer audio was NOT muted and the background (as do most Highway Video backgrounds) had music behind it.
So...as Rachel began singing, really funky techno music started up and completely drowned out the band. There was nothing to do but laugh and start over. And that is exactly what we did. It was awesome.

sunday setlist 6-15-08
As I mentioned, I taught this past Sunday morning...so Blake Strozyk led worship. This was Blake's last Sunday at Crossings, which is sad for me for many, many reasons. He has accepted a position as the Worship/Creative Arts guy at Lifepoint Christian Church in Charlotte, NC. It looks to be great opportunity and I know he will do a fantastic job. I am very, very happy for Blake. But a little sad for me.
Anyhoo, here are the songs...
pre-teaching:
"(You) Bigger than the Air I Breathe" - Tim Hughes
"God of Wonders" - Steve Hindalong & Marc Byrd
"My Glorious" - Delirious
post-teaching:
"Christ Our Wine" - original

pre-teaching:
"Creed" - Rich Mullins
"Doxology" - traditional
"Lord Most High" - Don Harris & Gary Sadler
"Befriended" - Matt Redman
teaching song:
"Jesus, Are You Real" - Mason Jennings
By the way, Emilee Cook sang "Jesus, are you Real" and absolutely nailed it. I think people came to Jesus that day just because of that song. No joke. It was incredible.

Here are the songs we did this past Sunday at Crossings...
pre-teaching:
"God of Power" - original
"All Bow Down" - Chris Tomlin
"All Hail the Power of Jesus Name" - traditional
"How Marvelous" - traditional
post-teaching:
"Take Me In" - Petra
Yep. Petra. That was a first.
On another note, we introduced something into our worship set this week that I was pretty excited about; something I'm sure we'll continue to use. See, we do a fair amount of hymns at Crossings. The one draw back to doing hymns, however, is that the language can be, at times...well, a tad out-dated. And it creates a bit of an issue for me, as the worship leader, to lead songs that only half the people in the room even understand.
So, to solve this problem...we created our very own "Worship Lexicon".
From now on, when we do a song like "All Hail the Power of Jesus Name"...no one will ever have to wonder why we are singing about 'prostates' and 'thongs' again. Because any word that may pose a problem, we'll just throw the definition up on the screen during the intro to the song. That way everyone is on the same page. And for people who already knew the definition? Well, being reminded of exactly what we are singing when we are singing is always a good thing.
Here are a few examples of our Worship Lexicon:

Here are the songs we did this past Sunday at Crossings...
pre-teaching:
"Come and Listen" - David Crowder
"O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing" - traditional
"Indescribable" - Laura Story
"The Joy of Knowing Thee" - original
post-teaching:
"Be Still and Know" - original
I am hoping to post mp3's of the two original songs later in the week. They certainly will not be great recordings (we record from one channel directly out of board)...but as long as they are halfway listen-able, I'll post them.

This past Sunday made 3 out of the last 4 weeks that I did not lead worship at Crossings. That is not totally by design. It has a little to do with our regular rotation of worship leaders and a little to do with Air Tran screwing up my flight three weeks ago (but let's not go into all of that again).
Robert Bennett led and did a great job; especially in the face of a little adversity. We ended up cutting two of the planned five songs because service was going long. But as I said, Robert rolled with the punches and really did great.
Here are all the songs we planned on doing...
pre-teaching:
"O Praise Him" - David Crowder
"Center" - Charlie Hall
post-teaching:
"You Alone" - David Crowder (-this was cut-)
"Holy and Anointed" - John Barnett (-this was cut-)
"I Could Run Away" - Waterdeep

sunday setlist 5-11-08
This past Sunday was my first time leading worship in a few weeks.
We did an all acoustic set and had a blast. Blake Strozyk played mandolin, melodica, djembe and acoustic (not all at the same time...but its still pretty impressive). Matthew Nelson played accordian, my wife played glockenspiel and Dane Lakin played drums/percussion.
Here are the songs...
pre-teaching:
"Behold My Weary Soul" - original
"I Saw the Light" - Hank Williams
"All Creatures of Our God and King" - traditional
"Let My Words be Few" - Matt Redman
special music(?):
"Open Road" - Alex Woodward
post-teaching:
"I Will Not Forget You" - Waterdeep
By the way, does anybody have a better term than 'special music'? We don't necessarily like calling it that, but we can't come up with anything better. It is basically just a song that goes with the week's teaching. Any ideas?

"We are Yours" - Charlie Hall
"Big Enough to Hold Me" - Waterdeep
"Surrender" - Marc James
post-teaching:
"God of Justice" - Tim Hughes
"According to Thy Gracious Word" - traditional (original arrangement)

I was on an airplane at the time, but here are the songs we did last Sunday at Crossings. Nate McConnaughhay led and, I hear, did a fantastic job.
He, like everyone else involved in service last week, had to make some changes Saturday night because of my air travel issues. But he is a trooper and rolled with the punches. Thanks Nate.
Anyhoo, here they are...
pre-teaching:
"O Worship the King" - traditional (but Tomlin-ized)
"Hosanna" - Hillsong United
"In Christ Alone" - Keith Getty
"Mighty to Save" - Hillsong
post-teaching:
"Here is Our King" - David Crowder

Okay. I think its time. People have asked me to do this for a while now. But honestly, I have just felt weird about it. I mean, seriously...who cares what songs we do at Crossings?
Well, I'm still not sure I know how to answer that question. But the truth is, my friend Greg has recently started doing this and I have found it interesting. Helpful? I don't know. That remains to be seen. But, as someone who has to pick out new music every week, I really enjoy getting to see what other people are doing.
So, with that in mind, here is our set list from this past Sunday...
pre-teaching:
"Wholly Yours" - David Crowder
post-teaching:
"Jesus' Blood" - Delirious
"Before the Throne of God Above" - traditional
"Crown Him with Many Crowns" - traditional
"Nothing but the Blood/Revive Us Again" - traditional
